Mompreneur Alma Moussa | Babee Covee

We’ve all had that moment… packing up for your first outing with your new baby when you realized you were loaded down with STUFF! The bibs, bottles, diapers, wipes, change of clothes, toys, blankets and so much more! Thank goodness diaper bags are so big!  But one mom found a solution to lessen the load with her MomInspired product, Babee Covee, a multi-purpose baby blanket and cover that saves time, money and space all at once.

BabeeCovee

Now, just one blanket does the job of 6, yes 6 blankets in one! This versatile baby blanket and cover can be used as 1) car seat “tent” cover 2) stroller cover/blanket 3) shopping cart cover 4) high chair cover 5) nursing cover and 6) playtime blanket. WOW! This is certainly one of these products I wish I had when my kids were babies.

AlmaMoussaBabeeCoveeOf course this awesome baby product was invented by a mom, Alma Moussa. With nearly 10 years in the software business, Alma was laid off and had the opportunity to create something on her own.  On her way to a play date juggling a two year old and newborn in the car seat carrier, her blanket blew away in the rain. Frustrated, she ran to her friend’s front door and turned that play date into a business venture.

Now, Babee Covee is offered in nine different patterns and retails between $39.99 – $49.99. Such a deal compared to buying all the blankets that you’ll need for a new baby!  And the Babee Covee Budee is a new item that is a four-in-one blanket used as a security blanket, pacifier/toy holder, burp cloth/lap pad, and tag-along (stroller, shopping cart, high chair, etc.) to keep favorite items clean and close. Both are machine washable and reversible. The fabric is designer quality, soft, durable, and long lasting.  And if you are looking for the perfect baby shower gift, Babee Covee is something that will really get used!

babeecoveelogoBoth Babee Covee and Bobee are Huggies MomInpired and Mom’s Choice Award winners. They are class acts for their newest products for a baby blanket and diaper stacker.

Striving for Organization

I am, by nature organized, which is what spurred me to invent a product like the Bobee Diaper & Wipe Dispenser. This past weekend, however, ended up being a scramble and so unlike how I normally handle things. It was all in preparation for my oldest son’s

Birthday Boy

Birthday Boy

fifth birthday party, Easter, having family in town, etc.

The days leading up to the birthday party were filled with running around, juggling errands and getting a lot done in a time crunch.  It went something like this…

Thursday: Went to Target to pick up the piñata. Drove to Party City to get candy to fill the piñata. Filled the piñata in the car to make sure I had enough candy. Confirmed I had too much candy and decided what to do with candy. Went back into Party City and bought bags for the kids to put the candy in once the piñata was hit open. Bought cake plates. Went to Costco and ordered a birthday cake. Shopped at Costco for the grocery list. Went to King Soopers and ordered a second birthday cake (we needed two, one for the actual birthday and one for the birthday party).

The next day continued…. Decorated! Went to Costco and picked up the birthday cake. Back to King Soopers to pick up the other birthday cake. Chose cupcakes for the school birthday celebration and bought more push pins to hang the streamers & other decorations. Delivered cupcakes to Colby’s school. Coordinated with the teachers for the younger brother to participate in the school birthday cupcake snack.  Went home and decorated some more.  Realized we didn’t have anything for the kids to drink at the party.  Scrambled off to Walmart to get cups. Luckily I had a lot of milk from previous Costco run. When there, I bought cake plates (I forgot I had already purchased some the prior day during the King Soopers run). Raced to the airport to pick up my Mom who was here for the birthday party. Picked up the kids and was finally able to relax because I had gotten everything done.

At the end of the day, it all went great. We had a lot of fun and it was a very eventful day, which included an Easter egg hunt in our town square, having my in-laws join us for a pancake breakfast, executing the birthday party for 25 people, and managing the rest of what is typically a very busy Saturday.

Although it all went well, the process for preparing for the weekend could’ve been more efficient and streamlined. It’s this striving for order and perfection that led to my invention.

Peel & Stick Wall Decals

Peel & Stick Wall Decals

The Bobee diaper & wipe dispenser was an idea I came up with when I moved to Colorado into a small apartment. I had an 18-month-old at the time and another on the way. When we moved in, I was looking for something to hold the diapers and wipes up and out of the way. Of course I didn’t find something I liked so I created my first prototype out of a diaper box.  Now you see we are three years later (that 18-month-old just had his fifth birthday party!) We are successfully selling not only the diaper stacker but we’re also about to launch a new line of peel and stick wall decals.

Mompreneur Monica Wreede | Accessory Connectz

I can really appreciate the hard work it takes to come up with a creative idea on your own and take it to market. Someone who’s really impressed me lately is Monica Wreede.  She is a mom of three, wife, inventor and business owner of not one, but two businesses!  With a background designing children’s clothing and accessories, Monica is able to combine motherhood, creativity and business into something she looks forward to every day.

Accessory Connectz

And every day it is! Whether it’s inspiration from the playground or a creative idea that strikes her in the middle of the night, Monica’s company, The Boutique Kids, features handmade clothing and accessories for boys and girls.  A true “mompreneur,” Monica even taught herself to sew! They have everything from hair bows to bibs, bloomers to bottoms, and tops too. They are wonderfully unique and can be custom ordered.

Her second venture, Accessory Connectz, features a patent-pending removable and interchangeable strap that allows for customization of flip-flops, headbands, pet collars and more.  You can purchase the strap alone or as part of a starter kit and voila… you’re ready to accessorize! Monica offers a variety of flowers, a new bridal collection, and a pet collection. Check out the super cute Daisy Flowers, perfect for Fido!

Customization is critical in accessories. I’ve seen a major growth in our new lines of Bobee removable and repositionable wall decals; people are all about adding flair that fits their style, and providing them various options to make something their own seems to really resonate.

Pets, flip flops, and headbands all get accessorized.

Monica’s sales are growing like crazy, and she’s expanded to the bridal category. Check out her new video!

So… let’s customize! Flip flop season is almost here and I’ll be adding the pink daises to mine.  What Accessory Connectz would work for your flip-flops? Let us know in the comments below.

How funding Mompreneurs is good for Kimberly-Clark

Here is a link to an article on the “why” behind the Kimberly-Clark / Huggies MomInspired Grant Program (by Adrienne Burke).

Bobee won the grant of $15,000 in 2011 for the Diaper & Wipe Dispenser and we couldn’t be more proud to be an alumni of the program!

Moms change more than 2,000 diapers a year!

New invention = less stress, 12 hrs of Mommy time saved!*

Diapers, wipes, pee, powder, poo, clothes, cream, pail and baby. The circus juggling act of changing a baby happens as often as 8 times a day for up to 10 minutes at a time. No Mom will argue that she easily spends over an hour a day changing and re-changing diapers. Mastering this skill is a must for any Mom, new or seasoned. It takes tremendous time and patience to get the motions down and about the time you do, junior learns to roll over and the dance begins again! One Mom of two from Colorado, found herself fed up with it after only a few weeks.

Stacy & Family

Inventor of the Bobee Diaper & Wipe Dispenser

“I remember constantly thinking I had diaper changing down and I would be able to entertain my little one and keep him still while I went through the motions. Inevitably, something always went haywire though. I had expected it to be a fun, calm time we would connect until one afternoon I actually found myself cursing at the wipes container. I decided enough was enough.” said Stacy Harfert.

Harfert set out to find a solution. She was pretty handy with a tool belt and used her knowledge to experiment with all sorts of materials from plexi-glass to cardboard. Eventually, she ended up creating a wall-mounted unit to hold not just the diapers but the wipes too. It struck her as the best solution to less stress. It made it easy to find them, easy to access them and it freed up the changing table space for the rest of her supplies. A friend noticed how much easier it made changing for her and how quickly she seemed to be able to do it and said she would love to have one too. The idea spread with her Mommy friends and before she knew it she had created a supply and demand problem without ever starting a business.

“I had seen other organizers on the market so I didn’t think it was that unique of an idea but the fact that it was mounted on the wall really intrigued a lot of Moms. I started to research what it would cost to mass produce them and found out I could even add some features like the custom stickers so it could be coordinated with the nursery.” Harfert said.

Harfert named her invention the Bobee™ Diaper and Wipe Dispenser and debuted it at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas last spring.  The response was overwhelming, and she landed a dozen retail locations. Her business gained tremendous attention when she was awarded a Huggies Mom Inspired Grant from Kimberly Clark last fall and she has not sat still since. She admits it’s the feedback from other Moms she enjoys the most though.  “The recognition and PR is fantastic but I love that sales are strong and Moms email me photos of their Bobee decorated to match their nursery.  I can definitely tell I found a way to save Moms some stress and I know first-hand the value of that,” she laughed.

*The Bobee one-handed system saves parents 20 seconds of fumbling and baby chasing per diaper change, over 2 minutes a day and more than 12 hours per year.
